Mount Meiru trek and Arusha national park

The Arusha National Park is very convenient for close to Kilimanjaro airport (60 km). Created in 1967 and modest size (137 square km), it is generally visit half a day, but can observe animals in natural habitats varied. The park consists of dense forest, with its center in the crater of Ngurdoto which culminates at 1853 meters. But the ascent of Mount Meru, the sixth summit of Africa overlooking the park with its 4566 meters, you may decide to stay several days in the park. The top drawing clouds allows the park does not run out of water.

Ascent of Mount Meiru
The Socialist Peak , has been rechristened the period from red Tanzania, and only the panel Sommital and cards Tanzanian still leaves traces of that past. Mount Meiru, viewed from the sky like a U as part of the caldera collapsed. The collapse has created impressive cliffs over 1,500 meters high. Fauna and Flora Park Arusha
The north of the park is covered by lakes Momela, which support a wide variety of birds, many Flammand roses, dik-dik ... We also find giraffes, hyenas, elephants few. On the side of Mount Meru, regular presence of buffalo, some leopards, Klipspringer. With altitude varying landscapes: forest of sticks, then altitude steppe covered with giant lobelia.

If you favor the trek and you have little time between the peaks, the Arusha National Park complements your stay. As its name suggests the park is located near the town of Arusha is the capital of northern Tanzania. The city is a little hub of industry. Rather than attempting Kilimanjaro with 5 to 7 nights to climb, it is interesting to Mount Meru to acclimatize.
