Calouste Sarkis Gulbenkian was born in Istanbul in 1869, He is the son of an illustrious Armenian family whose origins are drowning until the 4th century, near Lake Van. The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum
creation of Calouste Gulbenkian Museum is a will of fire that Calouste accomplished in 1969 in Lisbon 14 years after his death (1955) and 13 years after the creation of the foundation (1956). The complex has been trying to gather up pieces in one place. Why Lisbon? And although he came into a turn in the 1930s and then after a stint in Vichy France as a diplomat, his person becoming persona non grata i> he took refuge in Portugal. Well received in Lisbon, he will keep a very good memory before leaving for New York.
The museum houses pieces from the private collection of Calouste, but ultimately these pieces are a minority. It includes furniture, Art Deco jewelry Art Nouveau, Porcelain China as in any museum in Lisbon ;-), but also master paintings as mentioned above, the busts of Rodin .. .

Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:45.
Closed Mondays, January 1st, Easter Sunday and December 25
Adult rate: € 4, possible coupling with the Museum of Modern Art for 7 euros. Free for children under 12 years ..
