The statue of the Marquis of Pombal
Lisbon city was razed to 85%, there were 15,000 deaths during the earthquake. The Marquis of Pombal, unlike the royal family did not flee the city and rebuilt, including the lower city of Lisbon (Baixa) and ensures order. He became the true leader of Portugal, the king being a fairy discredited for 20 years. The Marquis of Pombal also will fight against the Jesuits.
